This is a portrait of Apus apus , the common swift, referenced from this photo from wikipedia : [link]
It's speed painting practice, 30 minutes on photoshop. I don't really think studies from photos like this one have any intrinsic artistic value and I generally don't post them. But Maybe It'll motivate me to do them daily and also digital studies from life and imagination.
I have absolutely no idea why I didn't see this earlier, but... not only do I love these birds, but I love how well your speedpaint captured it. Which reminds me... It's been a while since I've drawn directly from something. Makes me want to do more life studies.
SO BEAUTIFUL. I can't believe you did this in half an hour....I'm floored by the level of detail and lucidity, down to the reflection in the eye. The eye shape especially just breaks my heart; you've captured this bird's soul. Outstanding work.
Well, it still is a photo study. In these case you mostly let your hand work without thinking too much. But even then, I guess personality still shows. And I am glad it is capable of touching people
Actually it's a different species, it's Apus Apus, the common swift. Chimney swifts, Chaetura pelagica are slightly different but I envy you for releasing one
